For the housing developers EWG Heimstätte and Heimat Österreich raum & kommunikation won the first prize in the housing competition Orasteig in Vienna-Stammersdorf, together with PPAG architects and the landscape designer Stefan Schmidt. The competition was themed “New Settler´s Movement”, dealing with the task of cost-efficient, innovative, participative suburban family housing.

Based on that the Orasteig Housing Estate was designed. It is characterised by a strong relation between the apartments and the surrounding gardens and a big variety of floor plans. The low-rise buildings are grouped around a central square. Together with a range of common rooms that opens up good conditions for a lively community in the neighbourhood. The administration und usage of the common rooms will be done in self-management of the residents. For that raum & kommunikation will support the community building process for one year after the residents will have moved in.

raum & kommunikation is the project manager and is in charge for public relations, communication and community building.
